Health with St. Hildegard - Calendar 2025
The medical knowledge of the 12th-century nun, Hildegard of Bingen, is impressive. The healing power of herbs held no secrets for her. The calendar presents only a part of her rich achievements in this field, achievements that, discovered in recent decades, are astonishing in their effectiveness of natural methods for various health problems. The saint of Bingen treats disease symptoms in relation to the entire human organism and the environment in which it lives - she looks at it holistically, suggesting what means to use to cure ailments on the one hand and prevent undesirable conditions on the other.
In each month, the calendar focuses on herbs and other remedies that are available in nature at a given time or that work on seasonal ailments. Aloe, mugwort, fennel, yarrow, milk thistle, nettle, marshmallow, brook, saxifrage, sage, and centaury are some of the plants from Hildegard's herb garden presented in this edition of Calendar I as remedies for various illnesses and ailments. Among the ailments that can be relieved by the medicinal substances mentioned here are, among others, insomnia, heart pain, depression, rheumatoid arthritis, flu complications, intestinal and stomach ailments. You can also learn how to speed up the healing of fractures or wounds.
The diary also contains a dozen or so recipes for delicious dishes, preserves, and drinks, with ingredients characteristic of Hildegard's health recommendations, such as grains she particularly valued - spelt, galangal, bertram, cloves, and quince.
